Is it easy to replace the Optical Drive on my iMac?

I have an Optiarc DVD RW AD-5630A installed that is not burning Discs or playing CDs intermittently and I would like to know if I can replace it and do a self repair?

Here's the URL for the service manual. Check it out--you can best decide if you can do it when you see whats involved. Ralph

This appears to be the model that you have to get into via taking the screen off with suction cups. It is not an easy fix. Lots of tape on the inside and difficult screws to replace on the sides of the screen. Nasty clips at the top of the screen. The earlier iMacs opened with just three screws and you could replace a disk drive in 10-15 minutes. My estimate on this one is about an hour for an experienced tech. The internal drive isn't cheap. An external USB drive might be the wisest route.
