What is a “Hall Sensor”?

The Right wheel stops responding while riding. After calibration it works for a min and then stops responding again. The diagnostic review on my phone app for it says “Hall Sensor Fault” (on the side without the battery). What is a Hall Sensor and how do I replace it?

A Hall Effect Sensor is a detector which senses magnetic flux from a magnet or electro-magnet.

Thank you Dan! However I should’ve asked a question a little bit differently. I was more interested in learning how to solve my problem of the hall sensor faulting and what I can do about it to remedy this. I’m going to repost my question and be more precise and hopefully somebody out there knows how to fix it! Thank you for responding!
