My iPhone 3G is not charging..?

I took my iPhone with me to India on my vacation. The voltage is 230V over there. I charged it couple of times there using wall charger. Then, while i was charging through the USB which was hooked up to the PC, i got an error message saying "this accessory is not compatible with this device" and it simply stopped charging. Now that i am back in the USA, i tried to charge the phone but it won't work. Can anyone help me to fix it. All suggestions are appreciated!

Nikhil, just to make sure this is not going to become a red herring, when you charged it in India, what adapter did you use? Did you use one that is from there or did you use the one that you got with your phone. I am not sure if it would even fit, but just wondering?

usually this message pops up when the dock connector pins are dirty or damaged. try cleaning them with a brush to remove any dirt/pocket fluff etc. you can also try compressed air etc. then try again with the charger. If there is no change (ie message pops up occassionally) and the phone still charges and it is recognised by itunes then you can change the dock connector using the guide to the right (link is under the photo of the phone)
