Can I swap the Front Facing (selfie) camera from a 5s into an SE?

I bought an SE to replace my old 5s. I came up with the crazy idea to swap the Front Facing cameras since the SE is awful compared to the 5s. As far as I can tell most of the parts related to the front of the phone and the screen are interchangeable. I spoke with an iPhone repair guy and he said that they have different flex cables.

Does anybody know know if my Frankenstein phone will work? Or will I just break two phones?

5S

Only the iSight camera is different (8 vs 12 megapixel) the FaceTime is the same (Both 1.2 megapixel, 720p)!

The iPhone repair tech told you the truth, the SE front camera cable has a different connector that won’t match the one on the 5S logic board. Please ignore answers telling you otherwise, they don’t know what they are talking about, time wasters who can’t tell the difference between a horse and a donkey.

No, the camera on the SE is higher quality than the one on the 5s, so I would think that they are different.

Based on my research, the SE has a 1.2mp front camera, while the 5s has an 8mp front camera. So the 5s definitely has a better front camera if that info is correct.

I spoke with a repair guy, who actually looked at both camera assemblies right next to each other and thinks they should at least be swappable (I.e. should fit, connections are the same), but he is unsure that the SE logic board would know what to do with that other camera from the the 5s.

You are certainly correct about the rear cameras though. The SE rear camera blows the 5s rear camera away.

Yeah that’s what I’ve seen as well. So I think it should work. Shame they don’t list the megapixels of that camera because I would just buy it if it were 8mp like the 5s... maybe I missed it somewhere but I couldn’t see it in the specs.
