iSight -> USB Pinout

Hi,

I am repurposing an iMac 7.1 (A1224) to external monitor+HDD+Speaker+Camera for my new Mac Mini.

I read that the camera cable is essentially a 5V/GND/Data+/Data- that I can solder to an USB cable easily. Now I am a surprised to find out that the cable is actually 5 wire, as seen on the picture below.

Thick Black - blue - green - white - grey.

I already gutted the iMac, can’t measure voltage on the cable. Can anyone help me out with a pinout?

the colors of the iSight may vary, mine had Black (corresponding to black USB) Grey (corresponding to red USB) and two Whites (corresponding to white and green USB). I used the first photo to compare wiring position tome my guessing.

As you have two white cables you'll have to make try & error, bad connection (of these two cables) make no harm as they are data ones.

Be careful with the other ones as the carry the DC feed)

The iSight camera unit connector is wired like this:

It offers dual mics, IR and camera which is why it has a few more wires

If you have 2011 iMac 27 inch.

This is the connection for usb:

USB black cable to camera black cable.

USB cable red to camera blue(ish) cable.

USB cable white to camera green cable.

USB cable green to camera light gray cable. (look closely)
