JBL Flip II. Can't find any compatible battery for replacement

Hi all. My JBL Flip II has a AEC653055-2P battery inside (3 pin connector, 3.7V, 2000mAh). All batteries i found on internet have 5 pin connector and different size.

Anyone can help me?

UPDATE 03/04/2019

I contacted Ifixit as suggested. They confirm batteries in the store have 5-pin connector.

So I’m at starting point. Can’t find replacement for my battery.

UPDATE 06/04/2019

I will try to modify the JN151PH13849 battery to 3-pin connector and see if it works.

So i bought and modified a JN151PH13849 battery (replacement).

changing to 3-pin connector and wire and it works fine.

I have to test charging indicators.. i think they can be screwed up because the battery is slightly different.

ORIGINAL: AEC653055-2P 3.7V, 2000mAh, 7.4Wh

REPLACEMENT: JN151PH13849 (LIKE) 3.7V, 2200mAh, 8.14Wh

I will follow up as i test and heavy use the device.

Thanks.

Hi

Did this work? I have the same issue and wondering how straight forward the swap over is?

by

Hi. Well actually that works. But i have problems with charging. It does not recognize the level charged. So Leds not shows real battery charge ( as i supposed). I think we should find a battery that has same specs of the original one. I did not find any by the way. :( . The device btw works as expected.

Hi Francesco

Thanks for replying. It is what I assumed, lots of batteries available with 2 pins, the missing middle one being the battery charge indicator. I have found this one which I will order and confirm if it works, but it will take some time for shipment! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123706242868?... . You need to select the JST 2.54 3pin option I believe.

Cheers

Hi let me know please if that works fine. Seems a better choice than the one i made. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Franceso. I have received the battery, installed it and all works well!!! Very happy man here, after the hassle and waiting time. The battery indicator works for charging which I assumed the third wire was for. Presently playing via bluetooth and the led's indiciate charging when plugged into the USB.

If there are any issues over the next week of testing I will let you now but I am going to order 2 x more of these batteries as back up now having found this one works, I am that confident. The only thing to note was the new battery is thinner and slightly wider, so doesn't quite fit in the cradle, I used a bit of 2 x sided tape to hold in position.

Good luck :)

Cheers

Ben

Hi,

The battery is available from ifixit

JBL Flip 2 Battery

Update (03/29/2019)

Hi,

The part link was taken from the ifixit JBL Flip 2 Battery Replacement guide.

Perhaps the image of the battery for sale is just an image of a battery and not an image of the actual battery

Contact ifixit to verify whether it is the correct part or not.

Hi and thanks for replying. From the photos as i said the battery seems to have 5 wires so i can immagine a 5 pin connector. JPL Flip 2 (as long as i can tell in my version) has a 3 connector and wires. Also the battery is 1000 mAh not 2000 mAh as original. I can i verify this. With a different connector i would not be able to connect it to the board.

Thanks

Hi and thanks again. Ok i will try to contact ifixit. Btw i suspect that there is an earlier version on JBL Flip II that has a different board. Watching the repairguide i see the battery with 5 pin connector. I uploaded some photos of my battery in my original post. Thanks.

ifixit replied... and confirmed those batteries have 5-pin connector. :(

Or you can buy a JBL from eBay that’s broken and that the battery still works and use that battery good luck.

I thought about that.. but is more convenient to buy a new JBL directly :)

If you want, you can hotwire the adapter to a generic battery. Heck, if you want you can add a bigger battery (with more mAh).

Good luck!

I was thinking about that. But i would need some hints. Also i don't know the real difference between 3 connectors and 5, as i see those batteries very similar. Another problem is to find a good size battery to keep inside.

I have the original JBL Flip which uses a 7.4V 1000ma battery . Can I use 2 x 3.7V in series and connect the 3rd connector to the middle join?

Hi @vdb123

You can connect them in series but if they each have their own protection circuits then under certain circumstances it may be risky.

Here's a link that explains it better than I can.

They are cheap 3.7 batteries. I don't think they have any protection built in.

by

@vdb123

It's worth trying but keep an eye on them when charging etc

by

Thanks. I will try it out and see.
