Samsung TV not powering on if active HDMI is plugged in.

I have a pn64f5500 Samsung Smart TV that was given to me because it wouldn't turn on. I replaced the power supply board and it fires right up and looks great! However if the TV is turned off and I try to turn it on while it has an active HDMI plugged in to it (a Chromecast that is on or a computer that is on) the TV will not turn on. It will just blink the standby light at me and click as of it is trying to turn on. If I turn off the device plugged in via HDMI (I can even leave it plugged in just not turned on) then the TV will turn on normally. Any ideas what is going on? I would love to be able to control this TV with my Chromecast and Google home set up like the old one.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @rajiah ,

The user guide doesn't show it but is the HDMI input that you're connecting to marked as HDMI-CEC?

If so have you tried a different HDMI input (you didn't say) or is there an option to disable Anynet CEC in the settings somewhere?

If so see how that affects the operation of the TV

Just a thought.

@jayeff Unfortunately I've already tried all the HDMI ports and it's the same story. And I did switch back and forth the Anynet on each to see if it made a difference but no luck.

Have you tried turning on the TV without the HDMI plugged in then plugging the HDMI in? Just some advice ;-)

Hi @rajiah ,

What happens if you turn off the TV and the Chromecast, turn on the TV and after it has completely turned on etc, then turn on the Chromecast?

Does it stay on, turn off or what and if it stays on does it connect to the Chromecast?

If it works this way you have a HDCP problem

Have you got the latest firmware installed?

Double check that I've linked the correct one as installing the wrong firmware can brick a TV ;-)

I was just reading about HDCP! Are you a mind reader? Yes it does stay on. And with the Chromecast plugged in the USB on the TV that loses power when the TV turns off everything will turn back on normally. It just takes a minute to start up the Chromecast which is annoying but liveable.

I am reading about using an HDMI splitter to get rid of the HDCP but that also kills the CEC that I would like to use for controlling the TV itself. Is there a splitter that still functions with CEC or do I need to find a Harmony Hub somewhere?
