Sometimes hangs on boot, Songs stuck at 00:00, Static Sound

Hi All,

My iPod classic has recently developed several issues. The iPod will sometimes hang when booting and stick on the Apple logo screen / main menu. Assuming the iPod boots successfully it will function fine until cover flow is used to select a song. In most cases the song will play successfully until menu is pressed to get back into the list of songs. When you do this the current song will just stop and a static clicking sound is all that can be heard even when the iPod is put to sleep. When attempting to select another song I am greeted with the album artwork and progress bar etc but the song will be stuck at 00:00. Play/Pause changes the icon in the top corner but the song still won’t play.

A reset with Menu + Enter sometimes works and a factory restore has been tried multiple times. The HDD shouldn’t be the issue either as I replaced this with an mSATA SSD and a genuine iFlash SATA adaptor hoping it would fix the issue.

These issues all occur even if the iPod is on charge, but could it be battery related? Maybe the battery cannot provide enough power causing the iPod to lock up?

That seems like a satranhe issue. Your best bet is to replace the battery. If that doesn't work maybe even replace the entire sd card? It could possibly be faulty. That's really all that could be causing your problem. More evidence that it may be the battery is that the iPod doesn't run off of the charger when it's plugged in it just simultaneously charges the battery, so it could still be a battery issue maybe?

Thank you for your reply! I have ordered a replacement battery for the iPod and will see if I can locate a spare hard disk drive.

The battery should be here Friday so I will let you know how I get on.
