hard drive is failing. now won't boot

I can boot into the recovery mode.

is there a way to copy / clone the old hard drive to a new hard drive using another computer to do the clone. I have access to a windows computer but not to another mac computer. any suggestion or advice is greatly appreciated.

Danny,

It is hard to help without another Mac, especially if you are sure the hard drive is failing. If there is a Mac repair shop, not Apple, in your town maybe they could help you. They would have the tools to replace your hard drive and potentially recover some of the information/data from your old hard drive. Wish I could give you more. There are several others here who might have a better idea.

PS: Apple is not bad, but the cost to replace your hard drive might be steep. Just my opinion.

Do a time machine backup, and then install a new drive. Once installed, you can restore from time machine.

If the drive is not accessible, you can try getting an external enclosure and doing data recovery on it.

The MacBook will not boot except into recovery mode. If he recovers he would lose his data???

Thanks for the input.

I have worked with apple, installed the OS on an external drive but the internal drive will not mount to see or retrieve what is on it.
