Power flex port pins

Hello! I’m trying to fix an old iPhone 5s! However my flex port for the volume/power buttons isn’t sticking into the pins it’s meant to. Some times I lightly push down and it feels like/sounds like it clicks in but I take my finger of and it pops back off I’m wondering if I damaged/bent the pins on the motherboard because I can’t get it to stick down any help or answers available?

It’s a small delicate connector and it’s made of plastic material, if it gets pressured in the wrong position the plastic may deform, it wouldn’t be the first I’ve seen on 5S and SE. I would suggest to check carefully with a magnifier and a good light source that the shape is symmetric and sharp. You may try to gently carve it back in shape with a blade knife to allow the flex to sit in place. Check also the flex pins have not been damaged by mistake.

Ah thanks for that info! I haven’t checked yet but I even tried with a new flex port and that won’t connect either so I’m pretty sure it’s damaged sadly. I’ll see if I can gently form it back into shape but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to sadly. Would this mean I need a new motherboard for the phone?

If you have someone in your area offering microsoldering repair service the connector may be replaced, it's quite a straightforward repair that can be done in less than an hour work.

I’m just curious once again! Would I need to buy a new part to microsolder onto? I’ve never really done but might have someone who can. Sorry not to sure how it really works.

It can be purchased or a tech in the field might get it from a dead board used for parts that would be faster.
