Installed new hard drive, attempted to install OS 10.4.4, failed.

When I try to install the OS I get an error message. "Unable to install this software on this computer". I would like to get Snow Leopard but understand that it is just an upgrade and needs a working OS to build on. What can I do to get this computer working? Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

10.6.3 is now a full installation disk. You can order directly from Apple if your local retailer only has old stock of upgrade disks.

Thank you for the information. I will see what I can find.

the original 10.6 discs were also a full installation disc. Apple only put upgrade on it to try and get people to purchase the box set more then the stand alone disc.

By the way, disk is for magnetic media, disc is for optical media

It is funny that I have been working on and around computers for a very long time and had no idea that there was a difference. I just thought that some spelled it differently. Thank you for the education.

Ironically Apple is very strict about that one, hence my using their link, but if you do a google search for disc vs disk, you find many pages related to the subject. at least 95% agree with apple regarding the spelling.
