My LG control board sparks at start and then dryer shuts off.

So my dryer powers up. Upon pressing start it clicks, there is a spark (see pic) and smoke from the control board and it shuts off. So do I need another board or is this likely another issue? Is it worth repairing?

Hii @mfell ,

Appliances are always worth repairing - up to a point, depending on age and condition, availability of parts and economic viability.

What is the model number of the dryer?

Sparks emanating from a control board is not a good sign. At least the built in protection circuit seems to be operating and shutting the dryer down, safeguarding both you and the appliance from any further damage.

The control board, controls the operation of the dryer, so major components such as the motor or the heater may be the cause. It could also be a problem in the control board itself.

Exactly where the sparks are coming from on the control board will hopefully give an indication of what part of the dryer is causing the problem.

Be safety aware if you go to check this out. You are dealing with potentially lethal voltages. If you don’t know what you’re doing, leave it to the experts
