My Pixel 2 XL Is Not Charging

I have dropped my pixel in the pool but managed to turn it back on after some cleaning and drying. The problem now is the phone always detect that it is connected to a USB connection. This causes me to not be able to charge my phone when the device is on. When off i was able to charge but it charge very slowly. So if anyone know what the causes is, please let me know so that I can buy the right sparepart for it. Btw my mic is not working as well, I can only talk when on loudspeaker. Thanks.

As you have dropped your phone in the pool, your phone is likely suffering from some water damage. If you have the ability to, get the phone opened up and get any water that has found its way into your phone out by using a hair dryer on low heat and tilting it in a way so that any water in the device will flow out and away from the logic board. I would strongly suggest not turning on the phone until you have all the water out as parts of the logic board can short out. The sooner you get the phone dried out the better as corrosion will start to affect the logic board. If you can already see corrosion starting, use isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush to clean the logic board then make sure you get rid of all the alcohol using the hair dryer. Contrary to popular belief, do not put your phone in rice. This just causes a major mess inside the phone.

Using a hair dryer is not correct. You must eliminate the liquid with isopropyl alcohol + 90º. Otherwise the oxidation will increase when giving air to the affected part.

Actually, I don't completely agree with this. In a case where someone has brought a phone to me, I will use a heat gun on the lowest setting to try and get any water that may still be in the device to move away from the logic board. Seeings as how most people don't have a heat gun laying around, I suggest a hair dryer as they are basically the same thing. This won't work in all situations however if you are using isopropyl alcohol to clean the board then using a hair dryer or heat gun will help to evaporate all the alcohol and leave the part dry.

Sounds like the port and mic are the issue by what you’ve described.

Is there a possibility there’s some rust in side the port at all? I can’t recall if the 2 XL is water resistent ? Judging by what you’re saying it’s probably not though.

Its IP67 rated, but been in the water quite deep and for a minute or less so the water manage to seep in. Im not seeing any rust on the port as of now.

If you’re lucky, your phone could have been shut off before any major damage was caused.

You have to wait to let the port dry before you turn it on or will charge again. The standard length of time recommended in this situation is one to two days.

I have set the phone aside for some days already and already had professional cleaned up the inside. And the problem is still there.

It may had caused some damage. You may head in to your carrier store or a store run by your manufacturer and ask them about the test and repairs.

Will try to do that. Thanks

Good luck to you, Safwan.
