Liquid damage. Could not turn on except with MagSafe.

Hi,

A few days ago, my water bottle had spilled some water inside my backpack. As soon as I have noticed, I turned off my computer right away. A few hours later, I thought that the water would all dry up, so I tried to turn it on but MacBook Pro would not turn on. I plugged MagSafe with my MBP and it suddenly switched on again. Everything was working fine except that it was running much slower and it said that I needed to replace the battery now. The battery would not charge and it was stuck at 83%.

I have run the hardware diagnostic test and it appears CODE (PPT006). The battery requires service

I decided to go to apple authorized repair service and they told me that it needed the liquid assessment and a repair which required me to pay more than $500. I thought that I could have replaced my own battery, so I decided to come back home. After done some research, I have found that there is a repair service offering free assessment. I let them check my laptop and they told me that it’s not the battery problem since it’s the motherboard problem.

I’m just wondering what is my real issue here. Is it the battery problem or is it the motherboard issue ?

How can I fix my laptop without paying $550? :(

Thank you in advance.

There is no way to answer at a distance and without any test, it maybe either of the two or even both. You can buy a battery pack and try for yourself if you don’t trust the assessment you have received. In case that doesn’t work the logic board issue would be confirmed.

Hi Gestor

The team got wet and did not perform an exhaustive cleaning. But you ignited and charged the device with liquid damage, a big and dangerous error that made your failure worse. If you continue to use and charge the device, it will only make it irreparably worse. To save more than $ 500, you must open the device and clean it thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol + 90 °. Once cleaned you can start the repair by checking that it works and what does not. If you do not clean, do not spend a single $ on other things, you will throw away the money since the equipment will continue to have more problems / failures until it stops lighting and you will have to pay much more than $ 500 for a new device. It is not dry if you have not dried it yourself.

You can use these guides to learn and clean your device.

Good luck!
