How Can I Remove a Key from a MacBook Pro 15" Touchbar?

Hey everyone,

I recently discovered that one of my keys, specifically the ‘e’ key, has been repeating by itself. I’ve had the machine almost 5 months and so far it has been fantastic! I love it a lot, but I would love to fix the issue with this key in particular.

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can safely remove the ‘e’ key from the 2018 MacBook Pro Keyboard without damaging the computer and the key itself. I plan to take the key off, clean the inside and remove any dust/food that may have gotten inside, and placing the key back into the slot. I saw some videos online that showed how to do it on 2016 and 2017 models, but nothing about the 2018 model, so I thought it would be best to ask here. I plan on getting a Keyboard cover from Amazon to prevent this from happening in the future.

All help and answers are greatly appreciated!

It’s the keyboard failing, if the device is less than 12 months old you should get the keyboard replaced under warranty by Apple.

Are you recommending that I do not attempt this myself using a keyboard from iFixit? I just ordered one and then immediately cancelled after reading more. I'd rather not spend the $150 if I'll be unable to replace the keyboard.
