Screen stopped working after latest update

My Galaxy Tab S 10.5 hadn't been used in a few months. I turned it on a couple of days ago, and it needed to download an update. I did that and the screen was working just fine until it rebooted. The screen is black, but the tablet is working. I know because I hear notifications coming in, but no matter what I do the screen stays black. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hold down the power button and volume down button at the same time for 30-45 seconds (or until the screen turns on again) to perform a hard reboot, that generally resolves this type of issue.

That did it, thank you very much!

Hm. Well, now my home buttons don't work, and I have to do the reboot thing every time the screen times out.

I think firmware needs to be reflashed on that phone, something isn't right about the software.
