No sound from iPhone speakers

My iPhone worked fine before, now there is no sound, I can't hear when someone calls or sms. I can hear sound from apps and youtube etc with headphones plugged in. What might be the problem and what's the solution?

I have tried all the common troubleshooting, turning sound settings off and on etc.. restored phone but the problem is still there.

My mute button also seems to be faulty, in the on or off state it can vibrate turning the "sound" on and off (if I had sound). Maybe the 2 problems are related?

it may be the headphone jack is damaged and tricking your phone in to being in headphone mode all the time. try cleaning the headphone jack to remove any dust or lint.

Hi, good thinking but I tried that now, there was a little dirt but still no sound.

Try plugging it in and then taking it back out. It could be the dock tricking the phone into thinking its on an ihome

I recently have this problem too with my iphone 4 which cause by water damage via home button.. many people say it is the headphone jack problem..

but after sending it at the shop for repair, it is actually my dock connector error and got it replace...

the no sound happens because my iphone recognize it as using dock speaker, so it mutes all the sound except ringtones.

so probably you want to have a look at your dock connector.

Hello people

I just dropped my phone into the water, I think I had the same problem of El Ishak, so.

El Ishak, just to understand if it is really the same problem, confirm these questions to me:

-The phone is working perfectly exept for the sound system.

-If you try to use the volume buttons, it doesnt works and a "Ringer" message appears.

-There is no sound output usually, but it Rings and its possible to talk and listen normally in a calling.

-When you plug the earphone into the jack, it recognizes and it is possible to control the volume perfectly

-The speaker mode works perfect in a calling.

Today I noticed that when I connect it in that simple apple dock with external audio aux jack, the phone's speaker start working normally, and when I remove it from the dock, after like 5 min playing ok, it goes to the same state as before.

So, until now I was thinking that the problem was the phone jack, but now I see that could be the dock connector, like in your experience, not?

Thanks!

Check the 'silence' button on the left side of your phone above the volume buttons. If you can see the orange dot, your phone is set to silent. Ive noticed that alot of phone covers hide the button so alot of people dont even know its there

I have exactly the same issue on my 3GS : no sound at all. It happened suddenly, after connecting the 3GS on an audio device with a dock for iPhone. Now:

- No ring, no noise from keyboard, no voice during call, no music in iTunes, no sound from videos... and all this happens while listening from the internal speaker as well listening from the headphones. (it works with external bluetooth audio devices, however)

- The volume bar still appears when I use the sound buttons on the left side of the iPhone.

- The iPhone detects as expected the headphones when they are plugged in the jack port (I see this because the text is not the same on the volume notification when the headphones are plugged in). So, it's NOT because of a faulty jack.

- Regarding the dock connector, after cleaning it (it did NOTHING), I bought a new spare connector and replace the original one with the new part : the sound problem is STILL exactly the same as before. So it's NOT from a faulty dock connector not a faulty internal speaker (that piece in 3GS has dock connector+microphone+speaker, so they are all new).

- I reseted every data on the phone (General/reset...), I restored the device in iTunes... NOTHING worked.

- some people say the iPhone must be jailbroken, the "com.apple.iapd.plist" file must be deleted. But, in 2017, the jailbreaking tools for a 3GS with iOS 6.1.6 (Redsn0w and P0sixpwn) don't work anymore with recent Windows/MacOSX/iTunes versions ("exploit failed" and other errors are occurring). And, yes, I tried to jailbreak from 3 different Mac, from a PC, and even from a virtual Windows XP machine in Virtualbox with several old iTunes 10 or 11 versions.

So, who has a REAL solution to this issue, please?

You should really post this in a new post as you have the best chance to get it answered. Not many people are going to read an answered post but more people will look at one with no answers or no chosen solution. Just some advice to help you get your answer!

There are actually two possible issues here. One is due to the upgrade to 4.3 (off the top of my head) which breaks external sound output for apps on some iPhone 3s, 3GSs, and 4s. There is a wealth of information about this on the Apple fora, and a few solutions, but they do not always work.

It is also possible that you have a hardware fault on the 30-pin connector/sound card, though that is less likely.

There are a number of solutions presented here:

john nguyen, what is a bross and what do you do with it?

Pretty sure he meant "brush".

Also pretty sure that won't help. This seems to be the dreaded iOS bug. AFAIK, Apple has STILL not issued a fix (though you should check to make sure).

My iPhone was working fine before, but in the past two weeks, my iPhone has been acting weird that the external speaker has been on mute mode for music except for the keyboard clicks and ringtones. I had to always rely on headphones in order to listen to music. Now the iPhone goes on mute mode on music with headphones plugged in that I have to replug my headphones back in to hear the music. The song pauses automatically that I have to press play again.
