Battery Indicator Says not Charging

Spilled some cofee on the MBP and let it dry out with a fan for a few days and it would not power on. I opened it up, pulled the battery and logic board and gave it a thorough cleaning with non-conductive electronics cleaner. Put er back together and it powered up but says the battery is not charging in the indicator.

The side LED indicator shows nothing when I push the button and when I took it apart I noticed some corrosion on the indicator so I cleaned it as well.

Do you think the battery is fried or could it potentially be a corroded connection form the power source/indicator/logic board to the battery?

Update:

I just ran the built in hardware test and this code came up:

4SNS/1/C0000008:TN1D-124

I did some research and I think it has to do with a faulty temp sensor which would make sense why my fan would be running higher....also to the first answer I accidentally responded in the answer section after you.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Thanks for the info...took it into the mac store diagnostics showed problems with the logic board, battery, memmory, and bluetooth. I think it all stems from the logic board problems probably....and most likely they will find water damage so looks like no macbook pro anymore...

Does your magsafe connector change from green to orange when you plug it in?

Does your mac start up and run on just the battery or only on the charger?

For starters try resetting the SMC. I believe that on your model you shut down the computer. Make sure the charger is attached. Then push the power button while holding the Shift,Control,Option keys.

Since the LED indicator appears to be dead check your connection at the logic board. That cable is also very easy to break when removing the logic from the computer and it not only provides info on the battery charge status it is also involved in the sleep/wake functions of the lid. It does not affect the actual charging functions of the computer.

If resetting the SMC does nothing, replacing the battery is a possible solution, although in my experience battery failure after a spill is not very common. It is more likely that the SMC was damaged in the spill in which case you are looking at a logic board replacement.

Good luck.

Please check your procedure for reseating the SMC, yours is incorrect.

Nope it stays on green and never goes to the orange charging mode. If I unplug it the computer doesn't power down immediately but it takes about 30seconds then it goes black. I reset the SMC with no change and I double checked the LED indicator connection to the logic board. More recently the battry is not saying "Not Charging" and now has a black X through it.

Even worse just recently the computer is extremely laggy and the fan is on high. I am thinking you are right it is probably the logic board....too expensive! And this is a new mac :(

Had simular issue and found a charging chip on the MotherBoard had blown. You could see it with the bottom off as the top of the chip was warped. Had to replace MotherBoard. On mine the battery was still fully charged when I put in replacement MotherBoard. Good luck.
