Dark Overlay at The Middle of Thinkpad Screen.

I am getting dark overlay on my Thinkpad T440s at the middle of the screen which is FHD+Touch, this dark overlay don’t always appear, sometime it appear after laptop start and disappear itself after few seconds and sometime when it appear I have to tilt the screen to make it go away sometime it appear that it hardly noticeable and sometime it dark enough to easily noticeable… If I put slight pressure at the bottom right side of the screen where dark overlay start this dark overlay go away!

my conclusion about this issue that it may be due to loose connector due to which lcd back light dim and show dark or grey overlay but problem is I don’t know how to get to that connector as I am unable to find any guide or video on internet…please help me fix this issue! Thanks

Hi @mr_marxman ,

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop.

Scroll to p.87 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the LCD cable.

If the cable is damaged then here’s a link to the Lenovo part lookup page. Type Thinkpad T440s in the search box and then select your particular model variant. (It really doesn’t matter which variant you have as the LCD cable is the same one for both variants)

Next click the cables internal (11) checkbox on the left hand side of the page that opens and scroll down to find the Cable,eDP, for touch CABLES INTERNAL. Part # 00HN684. (if you click on the images symbol (5) to the right of the part number, 5 images of the cable etc will appear, so that you can compare it to the one you have and verify that it is the correct one)

Search online by typing 00HN684 only in the search box of your browser, to get results for suppliers of the part.

Hopefully this is of some help.
