Why is my charger cord and laptop not working?

We got a new battery for my dell Inspiron. When I installed it and plugged in my charger cord, the cord went out, and the laptop shut down. Now it won’t power on at all. I have tried removing the battery, and plugging in the power cord, that doesn’t work. Suggestions?

Answer this question I have this problem too

It is most likely a short in the mother board. If you have another Dell power adapter available then use it to see if you get the same result. If you suspect the battery then remove the battery and connect to the power adapter, if you get the same results then it is the mother board.

It dosen’t sound like a battery issue, it sounds like its you’r wire or the charger socket. So you would first try a new plug and if that dosen’t work then replace the charger socket.

When you plug in the charger is it loos?

No it isn't. It is a "lit" cord and it has a blue light until you plug it in to the laptop, then it's dead. That didn't start until the new battery. Could the battery have fried the cord? If so, why won't the laptop power on at all?

Maybe there was something wrong with the battery you bought try returning it and getting another one

Laptop is supposed to turn on without a battery installed.

Measute with a digital multimeter if you have one how much voltage is on the charging plug (Positive red probe on inner middle pin and negative black probe on outer circle). It should be reading near the rated voltage shown on the label sticker of the laptop charger or laptop itself 19V if I remember correctly.

This is usually charging circuit damage on the laptop itself if the previous charger went bad and this happened afterwards as a result. That requires board repair which may not make it worth fixing as it takes hours of troubleshooting through board schematics and component level.
