Soundtouch 300 soundbar won't turn on.

My Soundtouch 300 soundbar won’t turn on after a brief power outage. The soundbar is plugged into a surge protector. I’ve only had the speaker for one year.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi,

Are there any indications of power on the Soundbar - indicator (or status) lights?

If not, have you checked that the surge protector is OK and that there is power available through it?

A lot of surge protectors are the "sacrificial" type, i.e. they need to be replaced after operating due to a surge.

Have you tried plugging the soundbar directly into the power outlet?

Check if the manufacturer of the surge protector offers a warranty on their device which says that they will replace/repair etc any device connected to their surge protector which has been damaged by a power surge.

example only of the type of cover of thewarranty

Just a thought.

None of the lights come on. Surge protector is ok. Other devices are plugged into it and work fine. I've tried plugging the soundbar into other outlets on the surge protector as well as a different outlet on the wall to no avail. I've tried unplugging the soundbar for 10 minutes then plugging it back in. Still nothing.

Hi @tookaska ,

Since presumably it is out of warranty, I suggest that you open it up and check for blown or burnt out components etc. e.g. a blown MOV -example only(surge suppressor) or a blown fuse (if it has one)

Post some images back here of any damage that you have found and perhaps someone can help.

Here's how to do this

Also as an aside is your surge protector still OK as a surge protector and that it is still offering surge protection?

Some low end surge protectors are the sacrificial type and once they have operated no longer work as a surge protector although the power is still available from it. You have no idea whether they are still good or not.

Unfortunately without opening it up (which in most cases is near impossible without a lot of damage), it is hard to tell. You could check for scorch marks on the device itself as an indication that it got "hot" with the excess power passing through it caused by a power surge.

More upmarket ones are also the sacrificial type and there is no power available from it after the surge protector has activated, indicating that it should be replaced.

Whilst some others have an light which indicates that the surge protection is still there and when the light is out (with power applied to the device) it is faulty and needs to be replaced even though there is power available from the device.
