Can’t insert discs into optical drive (mechanical block)

Hi,

my xbox one s optical drive has an issue. I can not insert discs into it. It tries to push them inside but gets blocked.

I disassembled my xbox and removed the metal casing from the optical drive and I found that the center white plastic piece that’s meant to hold the disc once it’s in is actually blocking it from getting inside in the first place. If I remove it then the cd goes in, but of course then the drive is unusable.

I found that the disc hits the center of the plastic piece, which means that the plastic piece sits way too low.

Is this piece supposed to go up and down depending on use and mine is just stuck at this one position?

Is there a way to fix this?

Here are photos I took to demonstrate what blocks the cd and how it meets the blocking piece inside the drive. https://imgur.com/a/3VxrCVK

Thanks.

Unfortunately, if that piece is out it means that there’s some sort of other problems inside the drive that’s causing it to come out. While there’s no way for me to know what is causing that it’s likely that you’ll need a new drive for it. If you get a new drive be sure to swap the green board over to the replacement drive.

Hope that helps.

The piece is not out by itself, I removed because it blocks the entrance of the disc into the drive.

The piece is held by a magnet when the disc is spinning, but it’s supposed to be released once the disc is ejected. This however does not happen. So my question is why isn’t the piece released?

That's what I'm saying...since it's not released that means there's a problem somewhere else in the drive. Without being able to test it there's just no way for me to know for sure what it is. Usually with these drives there's bits of the plastic parts that will break off and that will make the drive not work properly. That's why I suggested that the drive will likely need to be replaced unfortunately.
