The SD card slot in my Mac Mini 2347 is inoperative

The SD card slot in my Mac Mini 2347 is inoperative, what could be the cause of this; the unibody superdrive is malfunctioning, could it be related to this.

Hey! Sorry to hear about your Mac mini.

So, as is with most Macs, the SD slot is part of the Logic Board. You optical drive also connect to the Logic Board, but is a modular part, meaning: it can be replaced somewhat easily, unlike the SD slot which is soldered to the board to my knowledge.

Are your other ports working (USB/FireWire)?

If both the SD and Optical drives not working it is likely a coincidence, but as a whole what they share in common is the Logic Board, which on your model Mac mini I would NOT recommend you replace because it isn’t very cost effective.

The USB is working, but I do not use a Fire Wire device or have a cable to try it out.
