Hi,

What is the model number of the TV?

Does it have a headphone jack at all?

If so, plug in headphones and check the audio there for static.

How is the signal input connected to the TV and if not from an antenna can you try another input type to prove if the static is coming from the "box" or if it is only there when using certain inputs or on all inputs and types of inputs?

The Model Numbers is TH-58PZ800U There is no headphone jack and I have a Sound Bar connected to the TV. The input signal is from a DirecTV Receiver. However, when I play a DVD the sound works - no static from the built-in speakers.

Jayeff, you could even say that the static sounds likes an echo or like under water. There is also an intermittent popping noise associated with the static/echo/under water sound coming from the built-in speakers.

Hi,

What is the make and model number of the DIRECT TV receiver?

Has it worked OK before with the same connection setup?

How is it connected to the TV -HDMI cable, Component cable etc?

Just to clarify, is the static in the soundbar, the TV internal speakers or both when using the Direct TV connection?

by

It has worked fine for many years. The static sound is coming from the built-in speakers of the TV. I have disconnected the Sound Bar to verify that the static is coming from the built-in speakers and not from the Sound Bar. The Sound Bar only amplifies from coming from the TV.

I swapped the HDMI connections between the DVD Player and the DirecTV Reciever and the static noise remained. I reset the entire TV to factory defaults and the static noise remained. I then connected the DirecTV Receiver to another separate/different TV and the static noise showed up on that separate/different TV. All of the connections were made via HDMI cable connections. I had also tried disconnecting the power connection from the Panasonic to hopefully get rid of the static noise from the internal speakers. None of these attempts worked until, finally, low and behold, I decided to disconnect the power from the DirecTV Receiver and let it sit for approximately 2 minutes. I reconnected the power to the DirecTV Receiver and reconnected it via HDMI cable to the Panasonic and voila - the static noise from the internal speakers was gone/eliminated! So, the conclusion is that the problem was with the DirecTV Receiver and NOT the Panasonic, after all! Thanks jayeff for all of your suggestions, insight and help!

I was a little sceptical since in my mind the Direct TV receiver should have nothing to do with the speakers but I tried changing the HDMI cord and adjusted the speaker settings on the TV and neither helped. So I unplugged the Direct TV Receiver (from the box not the wall) plugged it back in and after the reboot the TV sounds great again WITH NO STATIC! Thanks reverendtgay for figuring this out! Probably just saved me from buying a new tv!!
