Trouble updating to OS X from OS 9.2.2 on Power Mac G4

I am running os 9.2.2 on my power mac g4. How do I upgrade to os 10.4? I keep getting a message that says, "The bundled software can not be installed on this computer."

There is over 400 mb of ram. I formatted the HD (mac os extended with journalling enabled).

Can you advise?

Sounds like you're trying to install OS X from a gray disk that came with a different computer. Gray disks that shipped with computers can only be installed on those exact same model computers. The black disks that were bought separately are the ones that can be installed on any computer that meets the minimum system requirements.

You won't find 10.4 gray disks that work with your computer because I don't think any of the G4 Power Macs shipped with 10.4. So if you want that OS, you'll probably have to pay for the stand-alone black disks.

Thanks. That just might be the problem. I have 10.4 on a black disk but it comes up saying that the computer is looking for a copy of 10.3 from which to upgrade. Do you know if I can upgrade from os 9.2.2 to 10.4 with out starting out with a lower version of OS X?

No - os X.1 was an option (you could run either "clasic" or X) every other flavor of X has been a new OS release not an upgrade.

Actually, there is a Tiger 10.4 upgrade DVD that only works if you have 10.3 installed. Here's an Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Mac-Tiger-10... Sounds like that's what Greg has.
