HD won't mount. Disk utility almost works!

Hi,

A friend's iMac logic board has the capacitor problem, probably not worth fixing, but I'm trying to rescue his HD.

I've put it in my MacPro, in a spare HD bay, but it doesn't show in the finder.

I ran disk utility which shows it in it's left hand pane.

It shows "250.06 GB etc. etc" but beneath that "Macintosh HD" is greyed out. in bold,

When I press "Repair disk" I got a message in the main pane saying ""Invalid Content in Journal"

Then after it runs through it's duties reports that "The Volume Macintosh HD was repaired successfully".

But then if you ask disk utility to mount it {under the "File" menu I get a message saying "Mount failed. The Disk "Macintosh HD" could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting"

When I run "Repair disk" again I don't get the error message and at the end it says "The Volume Macintosh HD seems to be OK"

But, it still won't mount.

I'd love to get the data of this disk, assuming it's still there somewhere!.

I'd appreciate any guidance or ideas.

Many thanks.

I think the problem here is a drive formatted and used in a PPC computer being placed in a Intel computer. The operating systems are different. What you need to do is mount the drive in an external case and then you should be able to transfer most if not all files to your computer. I would only do this if your friend is going to replace his bad iMac with a Intel machine of some type. If he is going to get another PPC computer just leave the drive in the external case until he can transfer the files directly.
