Replaced Hard Drive Cable & Hard Drive to SSHD - MacBook Pro is slower

I replaced my hard drive cable a few months ago and then recently cloned my hard drive onto a SSHD and then installed it into my MacBook, but it made it slower and apps keep freezing/crashing after the upgrade.

  • I purchased both the hard drive cable & the 1 TB SSHD Hybrid 2.5” drive from iFixit
  • I’m running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
  • I have set the SSHD as my default startup disk

I saw in some forums that suggested it may be an issue with the hard drive cable. But what if I just replaced it?

IFIXIT only offers 1 kind of hard drive cable for my device. What other things can I try in order for my SSHD to work internally in my MacBook?

It may be a problem created by Apple. Because it may have tried to impose APFS formatting with the High Sierra on your SSHD. I’ve see this before. Make a Time Machine backup. Reformat your drive GUID, Install High Sierra or Mojave. Now use Migration assistant to move your Apps and data. This should solve your problems.
