My MacBook Doesn't Charge Anymore
Hi Guys, First time on iFixit.
I own a Mid-2014 Macbook Pro Retina A1392 and been using it for the last five years with absolutely zero issues until recently.
Around a month ago I noticed the DC Port had the two middle points burnt which I guess is because of poor contact, upon further inspection I noticed there was a pin stuck in the port.
Removed that, replaced the MagSafe charger because the pins were burn and I wiped the DC port as much as I could and the new charger worked flawlessly for a month.
Two days ago I was using Bootcamp and noticed that the green led on the adapter started blinking (not between amber, just blinking green).
I tried doing a SMC reset multiple times and it didn’t work. Finally I came across a YouTube video which recommended disconnecting and reconnecting the battery connector.
After I did that the adapter doesn’t light up, at all. No green, no amber and no blinking. When I power on the Mac it asks to plug in the charger.
I went to the Apple iCare and they suggested replacing the battery and the logic board (Around $700+) but I don’t really trust them since their service is extremely bad here in India.
I was wondering if you guys have any idea what sort of hardware issue this is?
Also right before the blinking happened, the Mac would only charge when it was on, it wouldn’t charge while it was asleep or shut down.
Is it the DC Port? The Battery? The Logic Board?
It’s easy to get access to a DC Port or a Battery and I can replace it myself.
Anyway, let me know your thoughts :).
Suraj.
Is this a good question?
