Mac shuts down after 2 Ram plates installed (8Gb together)

Hello everyone!

I ordered 2 RAM plates (4GB each) that are compatible for my iMac and installed them carefully into the empty slots. I had 2 RAM plates already installed on my iMac 2GB each.

My RAM plates are DDR3 1333 Mhz which I checked when I bought the new ones.

My Mac only shuts down randomly when I work on things that are hard to process so its hard for me to tell why it does that.

it has shut down 3 times since I started writing this question :(

Please help!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi, thank you for your reply.

This issue only happens when I put in the 2 new RAM drives.

The other 2 are okay but 4 GB RAM is a very slow computer.

I checked if its compatible about 30 times before getting them and the new RAM plates are exactly the same as the old 2 plates that came with the computer just a different manufacturer.

Obviously the RAM is your problem.

Try one stick at a time in each of the slots to test both the RAM and the slots. Sometimes a slot will not take a higher rated stick. Also check on the bottom of your stand to ensure you have selected the correct model of Mac you have.

Hi, I already tried one stick at a time and when I put in 1 4GB RAM plate it was fine so I put in the 2nd one. It was also fine for a long time until it just started shutting down the computer.

I checked the model number before ordering and now and it is the model number that I wrote down.

Do you get any beeps with the RAM? When the system boots up does it tend to hang about 60% of the way through on the progress bar? Have you ever had any screen artifacts?

by

only initially when i realized i took out the 2 2GB RAM plates and didn't put them back exactly where they were. Took a while to figure exactly where but then it worked ! alone! and then with one extra 4GB RAM and after that added the 2nd RAM plate and only after a while it stopped working.

I never noticed about the progress bar I will check next time

what is a screen artifact?
