Why did my SD slot quit working?

After months of reading SD cards well, my SD slot no longer reads cards. I have tried several cards to no avail; these cards work on my daughter's MacBook Pro, so it is not a defect with the cards themselves. How do I fix this problem?

The card slot is soldered to the motherboard. Unless you can do component level soldering, you can't replace it.

In the meantime it will be cheaper and easier to get a USB card reader. You'll need to remember it when you do a photo shoot, but it's going to be much cheaper then a new motherboard.
