Why does my car Start but not stay on?

My 2005 Kia Optima Will Start but will not stay on.Will shut off every time after about 2-3 Seconds.

If you turn the key to the On position (not start) what does the Check Engine light do? It should always turn on for a few seconds as a diagnostic thing (to show that the light is working).

If it stays on for more than 20-30 seconds, or if it flashes, that indicates that there are stored diagnostic codes that could help with an answer here. Specific information about what the CEL is supposed to do when you turn the key to ON can be found in the owners' manual.

Options

Some cars have a low oil pressure shut off, check your oil? If it's bucking before shutting down, you have a fuel problem.
