replacement of cmos battery in an Acer Travelmate 600

having located the position of the battery on the motherboard it appears to be a small black component I can see no way of removing it. I was expecting to see a watch type battery held in by a clip. Is it covered by a black cover or is it soldered into the motherboard as a component.
