Screen is black, but has boot sounds
My MBP 15'', A1206 model, just got a black screen after it fell asleep, then it will never wake up. I pressed the power button and closed it. Then I tried to restart. The interesting thing is I can hear the boot sound, brightness adjustment sound etc. I think the system is on. But Screen is complete black, I can't see anything.
Is this a good question?

Can you connect to an external display and check if that works? Also, shine a flashlight on the display and see if you can see anything.

Rab you are on target for the place to start. Richdave there is no inverter on a MBP of this ERA. This has a LED backlight not a CCFL. They are 2 different animals that provide the same service.

There is no Mac of any kind with the designation of A1206. Please give us the last three letters of your serial number so we can identify your machine. Usually found in the battery compartment. Thanks

Thanks for all your response, I followed your suggestions, here is what I got:
1. Model number is: A1226 and the last 3 letters of my Serial number is YAM.
2. I did connect the external display, then I pressed start button, again I heard the boot sound, but no display. I can hear the sound adjustment beeps, brightness adjustment beeps and the num lock F6 green light. But I still cannot see anything either the main display or external display. However I'm not quite sure if I do right to make external display work.
3. I used a torch light, but I cannot see anything.
4. Another thing I noticed is after I boot the Mac for a while, even though I cannot see anything, I can hear a very long siren when I tried to shut down but long-press the power button. I don't know if this will help.
