CPU Upgrade from i5 3.4 GHz to i9-9900k?

Hello Guys.

I need some help, I bought 27” iMac 2017. Which has Intel 3.4 GHz i5.

But my question is, is it possible to upgrade to i9-9900k or i7-9700k?

I would like to know if I can and I don’t want to damage my system.

I appreciate your comments, thanks.

Simple Answer not possible!

The i9 CPU’s use a different socket (high heat) and the systems EFI (BIOS) doesn’t offer the needed firmware support.

The top CPU in this series is the 4.2 GHz i7-7700K

iMac "Core i7" 4.2 27-Inch (5K, Mid-2017)

i7 7700k and i9 9900k share the same LGA 1151 socket. Probably it wouldn't work due to EFI restrictions or something.

If you are in the SF Bay Area and have the CPU, I can rebuild the firmware. This is not rocket science. Man made machines should have ways to make them work. Never say no without giving a try.
