iPhone 4 facetime isn't working after screen replacement

I converted my black iphone 4 into a white iphone 4. I have replaced the housing on several phones without any complications or malfunctions before, but on my personal phone, my front camera isn't working. I am not able to make any facetime calls nor am I able to take pictures from the front camera. If I go into the camera and switch the back to front camera the button that switches between picture and record flickers and does not stop. I have tried restoring three times and I even replaced the front camera. I have no idea how to correct this problem.

Hello,

I had this problem with 3 iPhones. It was always when I converted them into white and never when I replaced a black screen. It tried every motherboard on another iPhone structure and the problem was the same (front camera not working). In my case, the proportion of defective iPhones is so high, that I've decided to quit converting iPhones until this problem is solved :-(

I am looking forward to reading a solution to this problem :-)

i have the same problem with the facetime when i did my cousin phone not sure why? i have convert a few phones and when i did my i noticed that you can not connect to youtube for afew day after my and my cousins phone and i had to reactivate my facetime and also wifi issue? but now only having problem with facetime and youtube problem on my cousin iphone.? going sit it out for a few days and see what happens. as i assume that once you disconnect the motherboard from the battery, it needs to reset it self as some of your setting get change when you re assembly the phone ie time & date, re-activate facetime.

if that doesn't work i will try and replace the screen again and see if that make a difference? hope someone has some idea's on what happening!!!

weak wifi i solved by remove the shield with 5 screws and replace neatly with all the screws in place tightly so it's gounds the motherboard.

At the risk of stating the obvious... you need to carefully recheck the entire process, you either have a loose connector somewhere or you have damaged a cable or component.

A thorough visual inspection and a read of the iPhone 4 tear down guidemay assist you in resolving the issue.

this is an easy fix, most of y'all don't use finger cots while doing repair. unfortunately, your fingers have natural oils that stick easily to metals. when this happens while taking apart your phone, you are creating grounding issues. this is a common problem with the cameras.

the fix: get alcohol rubbing pads and clean each metal connection of the cameras, screws , etc. not the male connectors do. this would clean all of your nasty finger oil causing the grounding issues.

it worked for me. hope this helps ...

p.s. 3 years fixing iphones experience...

well i work out what was wrong the facetime and youtube issue, just had to leave for 24 hrs and everything worked again. so i do think! once the motherboard is disconected from the battery it takes about 24 hours to reset itself.

as for the camera issue never had that problem? i assume you connected everything tight in it's place. maybe worth tryin a new front camera and see if that the problem!!!

For the camera issue, I really came to the conclusion, that the problem was on the motherboard, because when I put another motherboard the front camera works smoothly. What I really need to know, is what I do wrong that causes this problem.....

But we still dont know if it is something broken on the motherboard or the software of it, do we?

The motherboard seems ok, but I don't have any microscope...

One thing I have not said yet is that when I try to switch from the back camera to the front camera, I have to restore all settings so that the back camera works again. Otherwise the back camera doesn't open anymore... I hope I was clear....

sound like there is circuit damage some where on the motherboard, if it still under warranty put back together and take it to apple store just make your water sensor stickers is back in the right place as apple will open the back to check for water damage.

other wise you will need a powerful mircoscope and soldering skills.

Hi Ariel,

I repair iPhones and after a long time I have the same problem again with one iPhone 4.

I read your answer yesterday. Today I have bought Alcohol (Ethanol. I tried to find Isorpopyl Alcohol but I couldn't)

I have cleaned with ethanol the upper area of the mother board where the lcd, digitizer, cameras connectors are placed and the problem is still there.

Any special trick or place that I should clean more specifically?

Thanks

PD: As I said in others answers I have tried several things to fix this problem

-Changing the front camera is not needed. Actually the front camera that doesnt work in this iPhone, works well in another.

-I have found this problem after and lcd replacemnt. Then I tried to put the previous lcd part again because it was just worked perfect (only had a small crack) but without success.

-I have had this problem on iPhones with and without Jailbreak. Then I tried to restore it but nothing happened.

I have the same issue after replacing front LCD of my iPhone4.

I tried to change the front camera and put back the old LCD and problem still occurs.

Really annoying :(

I think that the problem is in the logic board, check the zone near the 3 upper connectors..
