trouble formatting after new harddrive install

installed new SATA barracuda drive 500g original crashed. When using install disc 1

Mac OS x 1 I get to the "select destination

there is no Hard drive Icon to click on and the continue botton is grayed out. upon opening the disc utility I DO HAVE THE mAC os X INSTALL DISC in the left hand box. clicking on the

First aid tab than I click Verify disk permission..iget an error message "NO VALID PACKAGES9-9997) cLICKING erase GETS EVERYTHING GREYED OUT......wHAT DO i DO NEXT TO CONTINUE LOADING NEXT DISCS.....hELP

Chosen Solution

You need to use Disk Utilities and format the drive before you can install a system on it. Give it one partition, use Apple Partition Map. Then exit Disk Utilities and continue with the System Installation.

when I get to the partition tab section, there are no options available..name shows as mac os x install disc 1

also there is a note" this disk is not writable and ca not be portioned

I see 2 items...4.2gb mathasaDVD and MAC OS X INstall disc 1, I dont see the new hard drive there. Thanks

Check the cable connections to the logic board and the drive. What kind of crash did the old drive have? Examine the capacitors on the logic board for swelling and/or corrosion.

Did not crash..computer would start but it would not go to the log in window it just sat in the white page withe apple and gave out a lound wining sound of a disc drive.
