Upgrade or fix motherboard?

I have a 2010 13” MacBook Pro that needs a new motherboard as I accidentally pried the left speaker/subwoofer plug off while trying to address heat issues with the CPU. I was planning on buying a replacement until I discovered that I can no longer update mac OS (High Sierra is the end of the road).

Should I upgrade the laptop to a newer (user repairable) model that can run updated versions of mac OS or replace the motherboard? If I upgrade, what year MacBook should I consider?

I should add that fan noise has given me a lot of grief over the years. I’ve replaced the fan once and more recently, pulled the heatsink off and added new thermal compound to make it run cooler and spin the fan at a lower rpm.

I still haven’t fixed heat issue; when it runs hot, the cpu will hit 180-190 deg. If I replace the motherboard, I hope I can get it to run cooler.

The 2012 13” MacBook Pro was produced until 2016 because of its popularity and demand. Thus Apple will be forced to support it until 2021. The 2012 models were the last for the really repairable MacBook Pro before the advent of the Retinas. Max the RAM out at 16 GB and install a 512 or 1 TB SSD along with a new hard drive I/R cable and you have a very nice machine.

Protect the cable this way to keep it from failing
