Screen randomly flickering pink and flashing.

I usually carry my macbook in a protective padded sleeve in my backpack and make extra sure to be gentle with it. However, I recently had vacations and used my computer at home on a table or my lap. After 5 days of continuous normal use (without any problems) the screen started flickering pink and had vertical lines. It gets better as I close my computer, to the point where its almost closed and the screen is almost normal.

I was thinking something could be corroded, as I recently took a trip to a very humid place and stayed close to the beach (never took it to the beach, obviously)

The screen shows no LCD damage nor has it fallen. This issue started randomly after 5 days of it coming in contact with nothing but the table it was placed on.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

What was your date of purchase?

by

August 2017, it started 3 months after the warranty expired. Seems like a common problem among these new macbooks.

I'm having the same problem. I bought my macbook pro in July of 2017. But, I'm currently trying to figure out if it's a 2016 or 2017. Regardless, I'm having the same issue and it just happened out of nowhere today. Would this be flexgate or ribbon cable failure? Is flexgate the same thing as ribbon cable failure?

Sadly, you have a ribbon cable failure. You’ll need to get your self to an Apple Store or authorized Service center to get your display replaced under warranty.

Don’t wait! It will cost you $700 USD out of pocket if you do.

@danj do you think Apple might take this one for a Flat Rate Repair?

by

@mayer - Thats the cost ;-{ (Part and 1 hour time).

by

@danj I just remembered that I did his repair a couple of weeks ago on a 2016 touchbar and I did charge $700, but made about $150 using a new display. Since it may be just out of warranty , she could request a "Warranty Exception" from a manager. Apple has been know to do that on machines that are close to the warranty date.

by

@mayer - Yes! Getting a warranty exception is the next course of action if the warranty had expired.

you have something called flexgate. the screen cable inside the laptop is too short and if you keep opening and closing the computer it will slightly damage the cable.
