How much does it cost to have the screen replaced?

I was wondering what Apple charged for replacing the display for a 15” mid-2014 Macbook Pro? It is out of warranty and very badly scratched!

Thanks,

Update (11/22/2018)

I’ve added a photo, which actually makes it look worse than it is for everyday use. For the most part, I forget the scratches are there whilst I’m using my MacBook, but every now and again it annoys me.

As to how it happened? I’m not entirely sure! I think it' has been over time due to poor cleaning attempt and potentially my cat!!

I'm not comfortable that I could follow those instructions successfully myself. It’d be great to find a private repairer instead of Apple. I am in Australia.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Lets see if @pollytintop can help you. She's located In Batemans Bay, south of Sydney.

Thanks! I should've said, I am in Brisbane too.

$500 for just the screen... not cheap. Maybe look at a screen protector that may smooth out the appearance a bit? Am not local to Brissy so no recommendations, good luck.

@pollytintop Maybe try a glazed surface screen protector, if it can be found..I tried the glass kind used in iPads but it doesn't make much difference.

I'm not sure if this helps Apple did offer an extended warranty on damaged anti-reflective coating failure which is really your issue here. Apple Extends Free Repairs of Anti-Reflective Coating on Select MacBook and MacBook Pro Models. Its worth the trip to the Apple Store or authorized service center to see if you can convince them you didn't know of the program as you were in the outback ;-}

If the screen is not actually broken and it has no sever dents, I would try for a “Flat Rate Depot” repair directly from Apple. @pollytintop, @jayeff or @benjamen50 may know the phone number for Apple direct in Aussyland. Apple will fix any and all problems for that flat rate fee. In Texas the cost is $357 USD with shipping and tax included $494.45 AUD.

I doubt you can even find the part for that price.

In the USA you call them described the problem, ask for a flat rate repair and they have a FedEx overnight shipping box on your doorstep the next morning. Total time including the day you called is four days. Be sure to back up your data before sending in just in case.

I like how outdated the image is of that Apple Store. Anyone else notice that the iPhone shown in the right hand side of the store is an iPhone 3G? I also see a cheesegrater Mac Pro near the back left of the store too!

Hello, it looks like anti glare filter delimitation plus scratches. Google for info. Some people used rubbing alcohol, Listerine, etc. to remove the anti glare filter. This will not fix the problem with scratches. Well, you can get an external monitor.
