This is a common problem with the 1st gen Hondas from what I have heard. Generally the solution is replacing the transmission position sensor (also known as a range switch, or park/neutral safety switch).

All this item does is detect what position’ (gear) that the transmission is in and relay it to the ECU. So if it isn’t working properly, that would explain why the park light is not illuminating on the dash and the car won’t start.

If you look on the end of your automatic transmission, you should see a wiring loom disappearing under a black tin cover - remove this cover and you should be looking at the position sensor. The position sensor has a bunch of contacts inside it which wear out over time, or sometimes the housing itself fractures. Either way replacing it would be my first step.
