Sleep sensor and magnet question

Hi everyone,

I recently got a good deal on a MAcbook 12 2016 model. All I had to do is to change the screen, as the seller managed to break it.

So I ordered a replacement screen, but unfortunately in the end it turned out to be a 2015 model, which only has a magnet on the left side, as the 2015 MacBook only has 1 sensor installed.

Because I didn’t want to go though the whole ordeal of sending it back, getting a refund and re-ordering I decided to make it work myself.

What I did was, I placed a small (not so strong) magnetic tape underneath the sensor on the bottom plate and the machine goes into sleep as intended when closing the lid.

However my question is, will I damage the sensor as it always senses the magnet or I will be fine?

It’ll be fine, the sensors are designed to be used with magnets.

Is this easy to do? What tape did you use?

Thanks in advance!

If you don't mind me asking: is this the sensor?

Was quite easy. Just had to locate the sensor. What I did after is that I just used a magnet tape and placed it underneath it on the bottom cover :)

Thanks for your reply!

So I am testing this, as a total noob, with a little magnetic strip on top of the case. The macbook goes into sleep, but on reopening the lid it won't wake until i remove the magnet piece. Does that make sense? Thanks

That might be too big, but it goes inside though :)

Yeah, but the problem is when i reopen the lid it doesn't wake in this test situation, i have to remove the piece to wake the laptop :(

Cheers

So I guess in my case it is not working with testing it like I did, but I will test it with smaller magnetic tape inside the case. Thanks
