What did I break?

Hi all,

So I had a bit of a moment playing a video game on my Mac. In frustration I slammed my fists into the keyboard 3 times and the computer shut off.

The charger light still came on so I figured the damage wasn’t too bad. I read that if you hold the power, left shift, control and option buttons at the same time and release, the computer will run a basic diagnostic test and if the charge cable light turns green, everything should be fine. I did that and my light did indeed turn green so I figured it was the keyboard/power button.

I just replaced the keyboard, put everything back together, made sure all the connectors on the logic board were still in the right place and it still doesn’t turn on. The charge cable still says its charging and it still turns green if I run that test.

any ideas? There’s no visible or obvious damage to the logic board or any related components. The only thing that seems iffy are the connectors on the airport wireless card. They just seem a little loose.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Update: I left it charging overnight and the charge cable is still orange even though it should definitely be fully charged by now. Battery short maybe?

That’s gonna be a tough one..it’s just a guess but it is likely the hits caused some flexing that extended inside to the logic board where you have literally thousands of solder joints. If any of those got cracked/desoldered on a given circuit that might be enough for preventing functioning. Even with a microscope it would be hard to spot anything unless something got burnt in the process. Apart from testing thoroughly I don’t see anything else reasonable you can try.

Agreed! The logic board got damaged and it will need to be replaced if you want to get this system back.
