No mic, home button, dock connector or speaker

I've got an iphone 3g 8gb, it's only around 6months old, but it's always given me problems.

Started out with bad reception when my GF's iphone had good reception in the same spots.

The home button has always felt abit 'mushy' compared to the other iphone.

A couple of weeks ago, the mic stopped working so I took it to a repair guy I know.

He tried replacing the mic, but it didn't do anything and then after a couple of days he gave it back and told me it was better, but he had no idea why.. he had just tried to restore it few times, and then it started working.

It worked like that for me for a couple of days, but now the home button has stopped working, the speaker has stopped working, the mic again stopped working, and I can't charge it through the dock connector.. So basically the entire bottom half of the phone has stopped working, but the top half(screen, lock button, speaker when in a phone conversation) that works.

It's been suggested to me to try and replace the logic board, but I don't want to spend the money in doing that if it doesn't work for me.

I live in Iceland so I'd probably have to order it from ebay and it wouldn't exactly be cheap or easy getting it here. :P

I've looked over the guide on here on how to exchange the logic board, and I think I'd be able to pull it off if I can find the right replacement logic board.

I'm guessing it has to be from an iphone 3g 8gb, but is there something else I need to look out for?

Thanks alot for the help guys!

The dock connector is out of stock here on ifixit, so I'm thinking about ordering it from ebay, would for example this, http://cgi.ebay.com/iPhone-3G-OEM-Lower-... , work for me?

Also, I'm thinking about dismantling the phone first to see if the ribbon is damaged.. seeing as the guy who tried to fix it 'magically' got it working after taking it apart and putting it together a couple of times, it might have something to do with the connector it self.

Ragnar you need to replace the dock connector on the iphone..it is only compatible with a 3g not 3gs. all the problems that you have are located on the dock. you could order from ifixit or for somewhere closer look on ebay, I'm sure someone is selling in iceland but if not there are plenty in germany and the uk. good luck. the guide is on the right under the photo of the phone.

It sounds like you have a dock issue more than a logic board issue. All the symptoms are possibly from a bad dock port. That includes everything connected to flex ribbon 4. I would try changing that component out first and seeing if any of the issues help. The "mushy" home button is possibly due to it being worn out. 3G phones are a few years old, and unless you bought new "old stock" somewhere, its hard to believe it is 6 months old/new. Was the phone refurbished by an individual? Perhaps they used cheap quality parts to do so.

Make sure Connector #4 is securely in place on the logic board.
