New Problem! Folder/No HD on startup, after 2 minute turns to apple!

anyone ever seen this? It starts as the flashing "no folder" sign for 2 minutes, then the folder turns to an apple and it starts up and runs perfect! This is definitely new to me, anyone know why this would happen? Thanks!

Sounds like your hard drive is starting to fail. Back it up ASAP. Then start up from your system installation disk by inserting the disk and holding down the "C" key on startup. Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities > Disk Utility. Select your drive on the left and see if you can repair it.

that was my first thought too, but its happened on two different hard drives on this computer? this hard drive functions fine in another black macbook. ill do some testing with it and see if i can narrow it to a failing drive.

Try the drive in an external enclosure and see if you get the same results. Now this does not sound like a bad hard drive. Hopefully it's a bad cable.

got it. the previous owner had one 533mhz stick of ram and one 667. computer was confused or something, swapped it out and it works fine.

I've seen this when a HD that was formated and installed in another computer is beeing used. Somehow the system seems to take a while to find the "bootstrap".

Try reformating and installing on that particular machine.
