Optoma HD141x power LED and temp LED stay on. Projector wont start.

Yeah, I know it says Optoma HD20… the option for the 141x wasnt there.

I have Optoma HD141x. Bought in 2015, worked fine until 3 months ago, lamp exploded. Changed it, worked fine until…

Last night a buzzing sound started so I turned it off and went to bed.

This morning, the projector started with same sound so I turned it off again. I opened the projector to see if anything looked abnormal (Im far from knowing anything about it but I checked anyway). I tried turning it on while opened to see where the sound was coming from but now it just wont start. Only the power LED and the temp LED stay on.

Im pretty sure the problem comes from the temp sensors… seems logical, but I have no idea if that really is the problem or something else. Plus, I have no idea what to do if that is the problem.

I tried calling Optoma but they dont receive calls…

Thanks

Hi @dom2018 ,

Being pedantic, are the lights on permanently or flashing and what colour are they?

If the temp LED is flashing it points to a fan failure.

If the temp LED is solid it points to a lamp failure. Given that you have replaced the lamp perhaps it may be a power problem.

Since you have opened the projector anyway, take some close up pictures of the boards and post back here. Hopefully someone may spot something amiss.

Here's how to do this. Adding images to an existing question

Thanks jayeff!

The lights stay on steadily. They dont flash.

What the manual actually says is:

Error (Thermal Fail) --- Operation Made --- Thermal Fail --- T<3min. (Fan Cooling)

But since it wont start even when cold, not even the fan, my guess is that it cant be a temp problem. Maybe a sensor?

I will try to change the bulb again. Maybe you're right and this will fix the issue.

Ill let you know.

Bulb changed; no change.

Sometimes when it starts, the light is flickering and then nothing. The LED's stay on. Actually the last time, the temp LED was steady on and the power LED was flashing.

Any success solving the puzzle? Cheers

The projector might have a dead man's switch. You might need to tape this down when the housing is off before you try to do any power diagnostics.
