Touch not working after disconnecting flex cables

A friend asked me to replace his i8 display which I tried and after testing the functionality just connecting the 2 flex cables I installed everything like camera and plating. Now all of a sudden the touchscreen doesn’t work. Tried another display with the same result. I did forget to disconnect te power before connecting/disconnecting flex cables once. She doesn’t know what ios she has on it ( could it be the 11.3 problem?) and I can’t check it on my pc without touch, because I need to unlock it first. Could I have damaged something because I didn’t disconnect the power flex cable?

It is possible to cause logic board damage when the board is still powered while you fiddle with the connectors. When the connector isn’t lined up properly, the pins get crossed and on these devices, power lines are adjacent to ground lines. Usually this will affect the backlight circuit as it ois a higher voltage circuit but any circuit is at risk.

Start by checking the condition of the flexes as they are very fragile and easily damaged. Even the slightest tear can cause issues. Then check the condition of the connectors. Look for mangled plastic or damaged pins. Use magnification to get a better look.

You say you tried “another screen”. Do you know for certain if this other screen worked properly? Using “known-good” parts is critical for proper troubleshooting. If the original screen is still usable (although damaged), I would re-install it to see if the problem is persistent (logic board issue) or goes away (damaged or defective replacement screen).

Finally, take a look at this site. If you purchased an OEM or Original grade replacement screen, there can be incompatibilities between LCD and Digitizer manufacturers. Aftermarket screens don’t seem to be affected though.

I went back to the store where I bought it and they let me try a few other screens in case it was their display that was faulty. All had the same issue. Might need to get someone to take a look at it RIP wallet

Late update xD. It was the LCD connector on the main board that was bent a little. I squeezed a little with tweezers and it worked and hasn't failed since.
