How can I factory reset a Leap pad 3?

I bought my daughter a Leap pad 3 for Christmas off of EBay and I don't have the parental code to add WiFi. How can I change the password or factory reset the device?

Jayeff thank you so much for looking into it. I seen a YouTube video about it that I'm gonna try.

I have a leapPad academy and my son's father naught it for him for Christmas and set it up before he gave it to him. So he set up the parent account and the parental lock code on the device and refuses to give me the lock code. My son is two years old and this thing is mean for 3-8 year olds and none of the games on it are meant for two year olds. In fact the games he has set on there are meant for much older kids so my son can't even do anything on it. I tried that code thing you guys have been talking about but it doesn't work for this one. Some one please help me.

by

Work with him on the games and soon he'll be smart as 3-8 year olds. Win-win.

Chosen Solution

To bypass password and get into the parental controls hence be able to change the password you hit 196backspace87 so when you're done the password you'll be left with is 1987. It worked for me.

For the leap pad Academy Hold the volume up button and the power button Down at the same time hold until the tablet goes off and until it comes back on, this will take u to reboot mode, go down to erase and reset and this will take only a few seconds, when done resetting the same screen will come back up and all u do is reboot and this will power the tablet back on and it should be back to factory settings as if it were new, hope this helps because i purchased a return and thought I was going to have to just return it because I had tried everyThing and I just happen to try this because I know it can be done with android phones also

I just had to do the same thing for my daughter, bought a used LeapPad 3 off OfferUp. I had to download the LeapPad Connect software and install it on my computer. Once installed you can connect the used LeapPad to your computer and the connect software should see it. Select Parent Account from the top right corner and log in with your own Parental account, either new or existing. This new account will assume ownership of the tablet and then you can click on Settings in the top right of the Connect app and you should see the Reset button there.

Happy Holidays!

You may be better off contacting LeapFrog directly about this matter. I was looking everywhere for a substantial 15 minutes and didn’t find anything online of how to factory reset the tablet without the parental password.

Look under your profile on your leap pad setup. it tells you the code.

by

Press on the pick a profile page on the icon with 3 people on it that’s the parent setting then do the 196backpace87. So your left with 1987. Worked on my sons leap pad ultimate

Hey I don't know if you solved the problem. I got our leap pad off Ebay so I just spent two hours trying to get pass the parent lock. I accidentally stumbled across the parent lock code in my profile for the leap pad setup. If you can log into your husbands account, under the profile it will tell you. Just thought I might throw that out there, it's not nice, but it's ridiculous that he won't give you the code!

I contacted leappad and got this answer:

The bypass code 196 (backspace) 87 is no longer working for LeapPad tablets. To resolve the issue, you will need to reset the device to factory settings with the following steps.

  • Starting with the tablet powered off.
  • Please press and hold the power button and the higher volume button together until you see a LeapFrog System Recovery Screen.
  • Using the volume buttons, please choose the wipe data/factory reset and press the power button to continue.

Once done with the reset, please register the device with your own LeapFrog parent account and create your new parent lock code.

Note: Resetting the unit will delete all the saved data.

Furthermore, once you have created your new parent lock code when setting up the unit again, you can reset the 4-digit code anytime by accessing the Parent Settings screen of the tablet. Once in the Parent Settings screen, you can reset the code by tapping "Device", then Parent Lock Code.
