Lens error, restart the camera

I am getting this message when I press the on button. The lens is not retracting in.

Lens error, Restart the camera.

Can you please help?

Pinky Kasotia , this is usually caused by sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism, or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. It is also possible that the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension....okay there are plenty of causes. Check on here for a more concise solution. Good luck

make sure you are not holding the lens when you turn the camera on.
