Why won't my trackpad register the click?

A few years ago, I got bad water damage on my computer. This month, i ordered and replaced the battery and logic board and it started up and works perfect. Only issue is that the trackpad won’t register the physical click. I can move the mouse using the track pad and I can also click with a light tap, but the mechanical click doesn’t seem to register. This quickly because an issue since i couldn’t drag and drop without a usb mouse.

Any ideas?

Here’s what I have done to my old unibody MacBook that has a similar trackpad mechanism to yours.

1. Turn off your Mac.

2. Run a razor blade around the straights of the trackpad, it’s not necessary to run it around the curves. Don't press too hard or you can damage the blade and/or the trackpad.

3. Run the blade around the trackpad again.

4. Turn back on your Mac and see if you can register a click.

@hyqo - What Martin is recommending is you clean the very narrow gap between the case and the trackpad as it doesn't take much junk to jam it up. I often try a slightly dampened cotton swab (Q-Tip) with a window or surface cleaner can sometimes fix things as well. Do keep in mind we don't want to flood the area as the liquid could seep into the trackpad damaging it!

If that fails you may need to remove the trackpad to get the grit out.

@danj I have been summoned... you tagged me instead of the question-asker? Mistake? Also, that is indeed what I am recommending.
