My phone died years ago (stuck in bootloader) and ahead of binning it I was wondering if it had an internal sd card I could extract (by ripping it apart) to get hold of my photos. I’ve looked at a few replacement videos, but can’t see if the internal memory is as simple as an SD card.
As you can guess, I’m not expecting to put it back together!

No, sadly. There is no “SD card” that the data is stored on. The storage is soldered to the motherboard; if you were determined you could take your board to a micro solderer and see what they have to say about retrieving your data. That would be your best option.
